More Information (P-touch/QL/TD-Printer CUPS)


  • Uninstall printer drivers
  • 1. Login as a superuser ( or use "sudo" option if it is required )
    2. Uninstall cupswrapper driver
    Command (for dpkg)  :  dpkg  -P  (cupswrapper-driver-name)
    Command (for rpm)  :  rpm  -e  (cupswrapper-driver-name)
    Example(for dpkg) | Example(for rpm)
    3. Uninstall LPR driver
    Command (for dpkg)  :  dpkg  -P  (lpr-driver-name)
    Command (for rpm)  :  rpm  -e  (lpr-driver-name)
    Example(for dpkg) | Example(for rpm)
    4. Check the uninstallation.
    Command (for dpkg)  :  dpkg  -l  |  grep  Brother
    Command (for rpm)  :  rpm  -qa  |  grep  -e  (lpr-driver-name)  -e  (cupswrapper-driver-name)

  • Add a custom media size for continuous tape
  • 1. Run the command to add a custom media size
    Command (Type the whole command as a single line before hitting enter):
    brpapertoollpr_(Model-Name)  -P  (P-touch/TD/QL-Printer-Name)  -n  (Format-Name)  -w  (Width)  -h  (Height/Length)
    Example

    For TD-4000,TD-4100N Users:
    1. Add a new Label Format with "New Label Format" name and 30mm width and 30mm length and 3mm label gap:
    "brpapertoollpr_td4100n -P TD-4100N -n Paper_Name -w 30 -h 30 -g 3.0 -m 2.0 -y 3 -x 1.5 -S [0/1]" [enter]

    -P Printer Name, eg. TD-4100N
    -n New Label Name
    -w label width
    -h label length
    -g label spacing y
    -m label spacing x
    -y top,bottom margin
    -x right/left margin
    -S 0/1(0:Continuous Length Tape/1:Die-Cut Label)

    2. Remove the Label Format with "New Label Format" name:
    "brpapertoollpr_td4100n -P TD-4100N -d Papar_Name" [enter]

    *** Enter the Width and Height/Length in the millimeter unit.
    *** Superuser authorization is required.

    For TD-2020,TD-2120N,TD-2130N Users:
    1. Add a new Label Format with "New Label Format" name and 30mm width and 30mm length and 3mm label gap:
    "brpapertoollpr_td2020 -P TD-2020 -n Paper_Name -w 30 -h 30 -g 3.0 -b 3 -t 3 -r 1.5 -l 1.5 -S [0/1/2] [-m 0.0 -o 0.0]" [enter]

    Case of S=0,1 then program not need (-m 0.0 -o 0.0).

    -P Printer Name, eg. TD-2020
    -n New Label Name
    -w label width
    -h label length
    -g label spacing
    -b bottom margin
    -t top margin
    -r right margin
    -l left margin
    -S 0/1/2(0:Continuous Length Tape/1:Die-Cut Label/2:Media With Marks)
    -m mark
    -o mark offset

    2. Remove the Label Format with "New Label Format" name:
    "brpapertoollpr_td2020 -P TD-2020 -d Papar_Name" [enter]

    *** Enter the Width and Height/Length in the millimeter unit.
    *** Superuser authorization is required.


    *a: If you are using QL-1050, edit a PPD file as follows
    a-1. Open /etc/cups/ppd/(model name).ppd with your preferred text editor and with a superuser account.
    a-2. Insert 2 [RETURN]s before the "*CloseUI"s in PageSize section and PageRegion section.
    [Before the edit]
    *PageSize (a custom size name): " "*CloseUI: *PageSize
    ...
    *PageRegion (a custom size name): " "*CloseUI: *PageRegion

    [After the edit]
    *PageSize (a custom size name): " "
    *CloseUI: *PageSize
    ...
    *PageRegion (a custom size name): " "
    *CloseUI: *PageRegion

    *b: If you would like to add custom media width 102mm, edit a file as follows
    b-1. Open /usr/local/Brother/PTouch/(model_name)/inf/paperinf(model_name)pt1 with your preferred text editor and with a superuser account.
    b-2. Edit the number "1167" to "1164" for the added custom media size.

    2. Select the new media size from "Set Printer Options" in "http://localhost:631/printers"
    3. Try a test print from "Print Test Page"

    If you cannot print with the custom media size, please check that your system has the "pstops" command.

  • Delete a custom media size for continuous tape
  • Run the command to delete the media size
    Command (Type the whole command as a single line before hitting enter):
    brpapertoollpr_(Model-Name)  -P  (P-touch/QL-Printer-Name)  -d  (Format-Name)
    Example

    *** Superuser authorization is required.

  • Use bi-directional USB port
  • The printer status information can be retrieved from "/var/log/cups/error_log" by connecting the printer through the bi-direction USB port.

    *** The bi-directional USB port is not available on some distributions
    *** LPR driver and cupswrapper driver installation are required before this process
    1. Open a web browser and go to "http://localhost:631/printers".
    2. Click "Modify Printer" and set following parameters.
    - Your P-touch/QL-Printer's name
         for Device

      *** Select a entry of "Brother USB Printer (P-touch (model name))"
      e.g. "Brother USB Printer (P-touch QL-580N)"
    - Brother      for Make/Manufacturer Selection
    - Your P-touch/QL-Printer's name
         for Model/Driver Selection
