FAQ (P-touch/QL-Printer)



  • I'm using RedHat Enterprise 7.2, Fedora 23. I cannot print to my Brother Machine.


  • If SELinux is working on your system, please type the following command.

    [Command] sudo su
    [Command] #restorecon -RFv /usr/lib/cups/filter/*
    [Command] #setsebool -P cups_execmem 1
    [Command] #setsebool mmap_low_allowed 1

  • What format of the driver can I use for my distribution.



  • rpm format driver :
    Fedora, CentOS, Redhat, openSUSE, Mandriva, Acer Aspire one (Linpus Linux)

    deb format driver:
    Debian, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Asus EeePC (Xandros)

  • I'm using dpkg and QL-580N, QL-570 or QL-1060N driver. I see "dpkg: serious warning: files list file" as I try to install or remove packages.


    Create a text file with the following contents and copy the file to "/var/lib/dpkg/info" folder.

  • I have installed both lpr and cupswrapper drivers, but I can not print.


    P-touch/QL-Printer will return errors with smaller or bigger media width setting.

    1. Change the paper size setting from the cups web interface ("http://localhost:631/printers" -> "Set Printer Options") and perform "Print Test page" (The setting will be saved when you perform a printing)

    2. Edit the paper size parameter in "/usr/local/Brother/PTouch/inf/br(model name)rc" to the paper width.

    ***The available parameter value is in the /etc/cups/ppd/(model name).ppd file.
    ***This action will change the default printout paper size.

  • I'm using Ubuntu8.10 or greater, I received an error message "/etc/init.d/cupsys: not found" during the installation.


    The command to restart the cups is changed from Ubuntu8.10.
    Please make a symbolic link. (Superuser authorization will be required)

    Command : ln -s /etc/init.d/cups /etc/init.d/cupsys

  • I'm using Ubuntu8.04 or greater, I cannot print with the custom media size.


    The "pstops" command is required to be installed. Please install "psutils" which contains "pstops".

  • I'm using an OpenOffice template for continuous tape. The length is always about 100mm no matter what I change the page size to in OpenOffice.


    The length of continuous tape is set at about 100 mm. If you would like to print in other media lengths, please use the "Add media size tool" to create another media size.

  • I'm using an OpenOffice template. Is it possible to print a template to the media that has a different width?
    e.g. a 29 mm template to 102 mm media



    No. Please select the template that has the same width as the media you are using.

  • I'm using OpenOffice, some of the print options that I have configured in OpenOffice do not work.


    If an option configured in OpenOffice does not work, go to "Set Printer Options" menu on "http://localhost:631/printers" and change the setting.

  • Is it possible to connect more than one machine to my PC?


    No. Connecting more than one machine with the same model number is not supported.
    (However, connecting more than one machine with different model numbers is supported.)
