I cannot print from my computer via USB.

Do the following steps to solve the problem:
      

  1. Check the status of your Brother machine
           
  2. Check the connection of your Brother machine and the computer
        
  3. Check the printer driver settings
     
  4. Try printing from another application
        
  5. Restart your Brother machine and the computer
        
  6. Reinstall the printer driver
           
  7. Make sure that the Device Manager recognizes your Brother machine (only for Windows® Users)


STEP 1: Check the status of your Brother machine

 


STEP 2: Check the connection of your Brother machine and the computer

 


STEP 3: Check the printer driver settings


Open the printer folder and check the following:

 

 


 

  • Verify that the Brother printer in the list. If the Brother printer is not listed, the driver may not be installed properly. Refer to Step 6.
  • Make sure your Brother machine is set as Default Printer.

  • Make sure that the printer status is not paused or offline.

    (Windows® 7/ Windows® 8/ Windows® 10)
    1. Right-click your Brother machine and choose See what's printing.
    2. Click Printer => Pause Printing or Use Printer Offline. (Take the checkmark off.)

      If Pause Printing or Use Printer Offline is gray out, click Open As Administrator. Enter a password for an administrator and click Yes.

     

    (Windows® 2000/ Windows® XP/ Windows Vista®)
    Right click on the printer icon for your Brother machine and if you see the menu Resume Printing or Use Printer Online, choose it.

    (Mac OS X)
    Check that the printer status is not Paused or Stopped. To clear the status, click Open Print Queue... or Print Queue... and click Resume Printer or Start Printer.
     
  • Delete all print jobs.

    (Windows® 7/ Windows® 8/ Windows® 10)
    1. Right-click your Brother machine and choose See what's printing.
    2. Click Printer => Cancel All Documents => Yes.

      If Cancel All Documents is gray out, click Open As Administrator. Enter a password for an administrator and click Yes.

     

    (Windows® 2000/ Windows® XP/ Windows Vista®)
    Double click on the printer icon for your Brother machine and choose Printer => Cancel All Documents => Yes.

    (OS X 10.8 or later)
    Click Open Print Queue... and choose the print job you want to delete. Click image.

    (Mac OS X 10.4 - 10.7)
    Click Open Print Queue... or Print Queue... and choose the print job you want to delete. Click Delete.

  • Make sure that the correct port is chosen.

    (Windows®)
    Right click on the printer icon for your Brother machine and choose Properties or Printer properties.
    Click Ports tab and make sure that the correct port or printer is chosen.

    (Mac OS X)
    Choose About This Mac from the Apple menu  => More Info... (=> System Report...) => Printers and check the URI: section. It needs to start with "usb".

STEP 4: Try printing from another application


Try printing from some other application. If you succeed to print from another application, there is a problem in the application that you have been trying to use.
Check the settings in the application and if the problem still continues, contact the application manufacture.


 

STEP 5: Restart your Brother machine and the computer


Turn your Brother machine off and restart the computer. And then turn your Brother machine on again.



STEP 6: Reinstall the printer driver


It's possible that the printer driver is not installed correctly. Uninstall and reinstall the printer driver.

 

(if applicable for your Brother machine)
If your Brother machine's model name starts with MFC- or DCP-, insert the supplied  CD-ROM and click Repair MFL-Pro Suite*. Then the uninstallation and reinstallation will be completed automatically.
*The availability of the menu "Repair MFL-Pro Suite" depends on your Brother machine.

STEP 7: Make sure that the Device Manager recognizes your Brother machine (only for Windows® Users)

Follow the steps below to check the Device Manager:

 

 

  1. (Windows® 2000)
    Click Start => Settings =>Control Panel => System => Click Hardware tab => Click the Device Manager button.

    (Windows® XP)

    Click Start => Control Panel => Performance and Maintenance => System => Click Hardware tab => Click the Device Manager button.

    (Windows Vista®)
    Click Start => Control Panel => System and Maintenance => System => Click Device Manager at the left side .

    (Windows® 7)
    Click Start => Control Panel => Hardware and Sound => Click Device Manager under Devices and Printers section.

    (Windows® 8/ Windows® 10)
    1. Open the Control Panel. (Click here to see how to open the Control Panel.)
    2. Click Hardware and Sound => Click Device Manager under Devices and Printers section.

When the User Account Control screen appears, do the following.

 

 

  • For Users who have administrator rights: Click Continue or Yes.
  • Users who do not have administrator rights: Enter the administrator password and click OK or Yes.
 
  1. Click View then Show hidden devices.
     

     

  2. Click triangle mark or + next to Printers.
     

     

  3. If your machine is listed as Brother XXXX Printer or Brother XXXX Driver, the Device Manager recognizes the Brother machine correctly.
  • If Printers does not appear, the Device Manager does not recognize the machine.
    Please try the followings:
    - Connect to a different port on the PC
    - Try another identical USB cable
  • If you see a yellow ? mark with the Brother machine name, right click on the mark and select Uninstall and close the Device Manager. Disconnect the Brother machine and restart the PC. After restarting the PC, reconnect the Brother machine.
