When I connect a network cable to the printer, I do not get any link lights.

Verify that the wired network interface is enabled and active.

  1. Print out a network settings page (Press the GO button 3 times).
  2. On the last page. What is the Node Type?

Does it say Brother NC-6600h, Ethernet 10/100BASE-TX (Active)
    If yes:

    1. Unplug the cable from the back of the printer and from the router.
    2. Inspect the cable to make sure there aren't any cuts or breaks in the cable.
    3. Plug the cable back into the printer and the router.
    4. If there still are no link lights, try another port on the router.

Does it say Brother NC-7400w, IEEE 802.11b/g (Active)
    If yes:

    1. The wireless interface is active and needs to be disabled.  To disable the wireless interface, press and hold down the GO button for about 10 seconds. Keep holding the GO button down until a single page prints out. This page should indicate that the wireless interface is now inactive.

If the issue continues the printer would need service.
