Configure the Brother machine for a wireless network using automatic wireless mode (Wi-Fi Protected Setup or AOSS™)

If you have a WLAN access point/router supporting WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) or AOSS™ (AirStation One-Touch Secure System), you can easily connect your Brother machine to your wireless network as below.

 

To use WPS or AOSS™, your WLAN access point/router must support WPS or AOSS™. Confirm your WLAN access point/router has the WPS or AOSS™ symbol as shown below. For more details, refer to the instructions provided with your access point/router.

STEP I: Configure the wireless settings:

*If your Brother machine has a touchscreen, please follow the steps under "For touchscreen models" below.

 

 

  1. Place the Brother machine within range of your WPS or AOSS™ access point/router.

    The range may differ depending on your environment. Refer to the instructions provided with your access point/router.

     
  2. On your Brother machine, press Menu.
  3. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose Network and press OK.
  4. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose WLAN and press OK. (This step might be skipped in some models.)
  5. Press the Up or Down arrow key to choose WPS/AOSS and press OK.
  6. If the message, WLAN Enable? appears, choose On to accept. The wired network interface will become inactive with this setting.

    If the message, Network I/F switched to Wireless appears, press OK to accept. The wired network interface will become inactive with this setting.

    If the message, Enable WLAN? appears, press OK to accept. The wired network interface will become inactive with this setting.
     
  7. When Start WPS or AOSS appears, hold down the WPS or AOSS™ button on your WLAN access point/router for a few seconds.

    The length holding down the button may differ depending on the WLAN access point/router. For the information on how to confirm if the WLAN access point/router is ready for use, refer to the instructions provided with your access point/router.

     
  8. Press OK. This feature will automatically detect which mode (WPS or AOSS™) your access point/router uses to configure your machine.
  9. A connection result message appears on the LCD and a WLAN report will automatically be printed.

 

<For touchscreen models>

 

 

  1. Place the Brother machine within range of your WPS or AOSS™ access point/router.

    The range may differ depending on your environment. Refer to the instructions provided with your access point/router.

     
  2. On your Brother machine, press Menu.
  3. Press the Up or Down arrow to display Network and press Network.
  4. Press the Up or Down arrow to display WLAN and press WLAN. (This step might be skipped in some models.)
  5. Press the Up or Down arrow to display WPS/AOSS and press WPS/AOSS.
  6. If the message, WLAN Enable? appears, press On to accept. The wired network interface will become inactive with this setting.

    If the message, Network I/F switched to Wireless, Switch Network interface to wireless? or Enable WLAN? appears, press Yes to accept. The wired network interface will become inactive with this setting.
     
  7. When Start WPS or AOSS appears, hold down the WPS or AOSS™ button on your WLAN access point/router for a few seconds.

STEP II: Installing the driver for network:

 

 

Please continue to the following steps to install the printer driver for network connection. Even if you have printed with USB connection, you need to install the printer driver for network connection.

 

NOTE: The screens may differ depending on operating system being used and your Brother machine.

  1. Make sure that your computer is ON and you are logged on with Administrator rights.

    If there are any programs running, close them.

     
  2. Put the installation CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.

    For Windows® users:

    If you do not have the CD-ROM, please go to the Downloads section of this website and download Full Driver & Software Package. The installation instructions are available on the download page.

    For Macintosh users:
    If you do not have the CD-ROM, please go to the Downloads section of this website and download the printer driver. The installation instructions are available on the download page.

     

     

    For Windows® users:

     

     

    1. The installation screen will appear automatically. If prompted, choose your model and language.

      NOTE: If the installation screen does not appear automatically, click here to see how to open the installation screen.
       
    2. The CD-ROM main menu will appear. Click Initial Installation.(This step might be skipped in some models.)

    3. Click Install MFL-Pro Suite, and click Yes if you accept the licence agreement.

    When the User Account Control screen appears, click Allow or Yes.

     
    1. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete setup.

     

    For Macintosh users:

     

     

    1. Double-click Start Here OSX icon to install.
