How to Install

For Windows 2000/XP Users:
For Windows Vista Users:


For Windows 2000/XP Users:

For Network Shared Printing:

*If your client PC has the same OS as the server PC:

  1. For Windows 2000 Users:
    Click on "Start" => "Settings" => "Printers" => "Add Printer".

    For Windows XP Professional Users:
    Click on "Start" => "Printers and Faxes" => "Add a printer".

    For Windows XP Home Edition Users:
    Click on "Start" => "Control panel" => "Printer and other hardware" => "Printer and Faxes" => "Add a printer".

    Then click on "Next".
  2. Select "Network printer" for the target printer and click on "Next".
  3. Input the Network Printer's Name, e.g. \\server\[model name]
  4. Click on "Next".
  5. The Test print dialog appears. Click on "Next".
  6. Click on "Finish".

*If your client PC has a different OS than the server PC:

NOTE: There are some instances where you should follow the steps above, even if the client PC uses a different OS than that of the server.

  1. Make a temporary directory on your HDD to save the downloaded self-extracting file, e.g. C:\brodnt
  2. Start downloading.
  3. Once downloading is complete, double click on the downloaded file to extract it.
  4. For Windows 2000 Users:
    Click on "Start" => "Settings" => "Printers" => "Add Printer".

    For Windows XP Professional Users:
    Click on "Start" => "Printers and Faxes" => "Add a printer".

    For Windows XP Home Edition Users:
    Click on "Start" => "Control panel" => "Printer and other hardware" => "Printer and Faxes" => "Add a printer".

    Then click on "Next".
  5. Select "Network printer" for the target printer and click on "Next".
  6. Input the Network Printer's Name, e.g. \\server\[model name]
  7. Click on "Next".
  8. Click on [Have Disk].
  9. Click on [Browse] and click on the drop down menu in the DRIVES field to select the folder created in Step 3.
  10. Click on "Open".
  11. Click on "OK".
  12. Select the model name and click on "Next".
  13. Name the printer. If you want to use the printer as the default printer, select "Yes".
  14. Click on "Next".
  15. Test Print dialog appears. Click on "Next".
  16. Click on "Finish".

 

For Local Printer:
  1. Make a temporary directory on your HDD to save the downloaded file, e.g. C:\bront
  2. Start downloading.
  3. Once downloading is completed, double click the downloaded file to extract it.
  4. For Windows 2000 Users:
    Click on "Start"=>"Settings"=> "Printers" =>"Add Printer".

    For Windows XP Professional Users:
    Click on "Start"=>"Printers and Faxes"=>"Add a printer".

    For Windows XP Home Edition Users:
    Click on "Start"=> "Control panel" => "Printer and other hardware" => "Printer and Faxes" => "Add a printer".

    Then click on "Next".
  5. Select the "Local printer" for the target printer and be sure to check off the "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer" option.
  6. Click on "Next".
  7. Select a port and click on "Next".
  8. Click on [Have Disk].
  9. Click on [Browse] and click on the drop down menu in the DRIVES field to select the folder created in Step 3.
  10. Click on "Open".
  11. Click on "OK".
  12. Select the model name and click on "Next".
  13. Name the printer. If you want to use the printer as the default printer, select “Yes".
  14. Click on "Next".
  15. Select "Do not share this printer" or "Share as [model name]" and click on "Next".
  16. The Test print dialog appears. Click on "Next".
  17. Click on "Finish".


For Windows Vista Users:

Notes:

  • If you don't know which version of Windows Vista you are using, 32 bit or 64 bit, please check by following the steps below:
    Click on "Start" => "Control Panel" => "System and Maintenance" => "System" => Check it at "System type" section.
  • The instructions may vary depending on the Windows Vista version.
  • By installing this driver, the printer icon named "Brother [model name] Printer" or "Brother [model name] series" will be added in the "Printers" section. 
  • You must be logged on as an Administrator.
  • If the "User Account Control" prompt is displayed, click "Continue".
  • If the "Windows Security" alert prompt is displayed, click "Install this driver software anyway.".

For Network Shared Printing:

*If your client PC has the same OS as the server PC:

  1. Click on "Start" => "Control Panel" => "Hardware and Sound" => "Printers" => "Add a printer".
  2. Click "Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer".
  3. Click "The printer that I want isn't listed".
  4. Select "Select a shared printer by name" and input the Network Printer's Name, e.g. \\server\[model name]
  5. Click on "Next".
  6. The Test print dialog appears. Click on "Finish".

*If your client PC has a different OS than the server PC:

  2. Download the file to the temporary folder or directory.
  3. Once the download is complete, open the folder or directory and double click on the downloaded file to extract it.
  4. Click on "Start" => "Control Panel" => "Hardware and Sound" => "Printers" => "Add a printer". 
  5. Click "Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer".
  6. Click "The printer that I want isn't listed".
  7. Select "Select a shared printer by name" and input the Network Printer's Name, e.g. \\server\[model name]
  8. Click on "Next".
  9. If the "Connect to Printer" dialog appears, click "OK".
  10. Click on [Browse] and click on the drop down menu in the DRIVES field to select the folder created in Step 3.
  11. Click on "Open".
  12. Click on "OK".
  13. Select the model name and click on "Next".
  14. Name the printer and select a default printer and click on "Next".
  15. The Test Print dialog appears. Click on "Finish". 

For Local Printer:

  1. Make a temporary folder or directory on your HDD [hard disk drive] as the location to save the downloaded self-extracting file, e.g. C:\brodnt
  2. Download the file to the temporary folder or directory.
  3. Once the download is complete, open the folder or directory and double click on the downloaded file to extract it.
  4. Connect the USB cable.
  5. Click on "Start" => "Control Panel" => "Hardware and Sound" => "Printers" => "Add a printer".
  6. Click "Add a local printer".
  7. Select USB port and click on "Next".
  8. Click on [Have Disk].
  9. Click on [Browse] and click on the drop down menu in the DRIVES field to select the folder created in Step 3.
  10. Click on "Open".
  11. Click on "OK".
  12. Select the model name and click on "Next".
  13. Name the printer and select a default printer and click on "Next".
  14. The Test print dialog appears. Click on "Finish".
