CUPS Printer Driver (Recommended)

How to Install

This driver is a Cups Filter driver.
====


Once downloaded, double click on the file. The Installer Disk Image will be mounted on your Desktop. You will find the icon BrotherXXXX.pkg on the desktop.


Note:
If you don't find the icon, please extract the downloaded file manualy with "Disk Utility". The "Disk Utility" can be found in /Applications/Utilities.
Choose the "dmg" file and click the "Open" icon. The Disk Image will be mounted on your Desktop.

  1. Double-click the icon.
  2. Follow the instructions.

    Note:
    The Installer will ask you to select a destination volume. - Please select the same volume on which the Mac OS X 10.3 operating system is installed.
     

For USB Users:

  1. Connect the USB interface cable to your Macintosh, and then connect it to the product.

    Note:
    Do not connect the product to a USB port on a keyboard or a non powered USB hub.
  2. Open the "Printer Setup Utility". The "Printer Setup Utility" can be found in /Applications/Utilities.
  3. Click Add Printer...
  4. Select "USB".
  5. Select your machine.
  6. Select "Brother" from the "Printer Model" list.
  7. Select your printer model's CUPS driver from "Model Name" list.
    The name of CUPS driver is "model name + CUPS.gz".
  8. Click Add. The printer will be available from the "Printer List".
  9. Select Quit from the menu.
  10. The setup is now complete.
     

For Network Users:

  1. Connect the network interface cable to the product, and then connect it to a free port on your hub.
  2. Turn on the product by plugging in the power cord. Turn the power switch on.
  3. Open the "Printer Setup Utility". The "Printer Setup Utility" can be found in /Applications/Utilities.
  4. Click Add Printer...
  5. Select "IP Printing".
  6. Select "LPD/LPR" from the "Printer Type" list.
  7. Enter the TCP/IP Address(or DNS Name) of the printer into the "Printer Address" box.
  8. Select "Brother" from the "Printer Model" list.
  9. Select your printer model's CUPS driver from "Model Name" list.
    The name of CUPS driver is "model name + CUPS.gz".
  10. Click Add. The printer will be available from the "Printer List".
  11. Select Quit from the menu.
  12. The setup is now complete.
